Mark arrived at St. Louis Sept. 30, 2000 at 11:00 AM at the St. Louis Waterfront under the Arch.

Introducing Mark Hamilton
Mark Hamilton is a 50 year old poet and professor who is the ONLY MAN to traverse the
entire Lewis and Clark trail from St Louis, Missouri to Astoria, Oregon and back again
since the original famous historical explorers did it in 1804-1806. Mark has already
completed the first leg of the journey from St Louis to Astoria Oregon in the years
1998-99. He leaves for the return trip on March 23, 2000, from Astoria Oregon, to St
Louis. He is the only man in 200 years to complete the entire trail by boat and by walking
with a pack mule with no help from any motorized form of transportation, just like Lewis
& Clark did it in 1804. His return route will take him from the Astoria, Oregon to The
Dales, Oregon by boat on the Columbia River. There he will pick up his mule, Joe, and walk
all the3 way from the Dallas, Oregon through Idaho to the navigable headwaters of the
Yellowstone River in Montana. From there, Mark will take his canoe down the Yellowstone to
the Missouri River and on to St Louis. He will complete his journey late in the year 2000.
This web site is dedicated to tracking the progress of this extraordinary adventurer.
Every week or so, when Mark can get to a library along the way with Internet access, he
will file a report to the web site. You might call it the Internet Journals of Lewis
& Clark & Mark. (Click here for the link) There
will be a daily journal entry for every day he is on the trail, just like Lewis and Clark
did it in 1804. Leave your comments on the web site in the guest book. And
pictures from the journey will be posed with the journal entries. Since Mark is following
the exact trail of Lewis & Clark as much as is possible, he will be pointing out sites
they saw on the original journey. Students of History, fans of Lewis & Clark, the
Print & Broadcast Media and other interested persons are encouraged to write to mark
at this email address: markhamilton98643@yahoo.com,
while he may not be able to answer all the emails, he will answer the ones that he can and
post the answers on the web site under the Ask Mark
page.
So lets all give Mark a hearty Bon Voyage and keep him in our thoughts and prayers as he undertakes this great adventure.
